What Does Cloud Hosting Mean?

What is cloud hosting in fact? The term 'cloud' seems to be very trendy in today's IT, Internet and hosting phraseology. Even so, only a few really are aware of what cloud hosting is. Maybe it is a sensible idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long story concise, we will first enlighten you on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Limited to a Remote File Storage Exclusively.

1. Offering a remote file storage solution, which involves one data storage tool for all customers, does not transform any given hosting company into a genuine cloud hosting services provider.

The cPanel web hosting suppliers call the ability to offer remote data storage services a cloud hosting solution. Until now there is nothing bad about the cloud labeling, but... we are talking about website hosting services, not remote disk storage solutions for private or corporate purposes. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to name a shared web hosting service, powered by a one-server web hosting environment, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" solution. That's because the other pieces of the whole hosting platform must be working in precisely the same manner - this does not apply only to the remote data storage. The remaining services involved in the whole hosting process also need to be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's very tough. A very scanty number of hosting distributors can truly accomplish it.

2. It Entails Domain Names, Electronic Mails, Databases, FTPs, CPs, and so on.

Cloud hosting is not restricted to a remote data storage exclusively. We are talking about a web hosting service, serving multiple domain names, web sites, emails, etc., aren't we?

To name a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one demands a lot more than distributing only remote disk storage mounts (or maybe servers). The e-mail server(s) need to be dedicated just to the electronic mail associated services. Carrying out nothing else than these concrete procedures. There might be only one single or probably an entire collection of electronic mail servers, depending on the overall server load generated. To have a real cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be functioning as one, regardless of their real number. Carrying out nothing else. The same goes for the clients' CPs, the FTP, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an actual cloud hosting packages provider will support multiple datacenter facility locations on different continents.

Here's an example of a Domain Name Server of a genuine cloud hosting supplier:

dns1.hostvolcano.com

dns2.hostvolcano.com

If such a Domain Name Server is offered by your hosting plans provider, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you discern a Domain Name Server like the one underneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This kind of Domain Name Server merely reveals that the hosting environment in use is one-single-server based. Maybe it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-single-server hosting platform and holds a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, a single server deals with all hosting services (web, mail, DNS, databases, FTP, CP(s), files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Perverted Characterization of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not restricted solely to a remote file storage service, as a lot of hosting service providers wish it was. Sadly for them, if that was the case, most of the file web hosting suppliers would have been classified as cloud hosting ones a long time ago! They are not classified as such, because they merely furnish file hosting services, not cloud web hosting services. The file hosting platform seems indeed very simple, when compared to the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's simply one simple part of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's plenty more to be discovered in the cloud hosting platform: the web hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the electronic mail cloud and... in the not too distant future, maybe a few brand new clouds we currently are not acquainted with will emerge out of the blue.
